Tiger Longwing Art

A striking photo watercolor of the underside of the Tiger longwing butterfly (Heliconius ismenius) on a bright red flower. Found in Central America and northern South America, it is unpalatable or toxic to its predators due to its larval food plants. Because of the adverse effect, it is shunned by birds and mammals as food and mimicked by other butterflies for protection.
